On Saturday, September 27th The Salvation Army held its 26th Annual Shoe-In For Kids at the Hope Center. Approximately 2,400 kids were registered for this year’s program and they were selected by their school counselors from 262 elementary schools in Bexar County.
The Salvation Army had a slew of volunteers from the following companies, schools and organizations:
- Kraft Foods
- Lackland Airforce Base
- Navarro Academy
- San Antonio College Students
- San Antonio Kiwanis Club
- Security Services Federal Credit Union
- Valero
- Wagner High School
- Wells Fargo
- Zachry Construction
These volunteers spend the day with a huge smile on their faces as they helped children and their parents pick out just the right shoe to start of their school year.
New socks to compliment the new shoes were donated by Zachry Construction and Valero. Wells Fargo and Cha-Cha’s provided the much needed nourishment to keep the volunteers going all day while they assisted with shoe fittings.
After carefully selecting their new shoes for the coming year, the children enjoyed spinning the wheel of prizes and face painting.
