Over thirty years ago, The Salvation Army sold the property next to its Dave Coy Center on Nolan Street to the City of San Antonio for $10 with the understanding that the land would be developed into a park.

Now Councilwoman Sheila McNeil wants to sell Healy Murphy Park, along with the historical Dullnig-Schneider House for hotel development.

Organizations that have joined The Salvation Army to save Healy Murphy Park include the Dignowty Neighborhood Association, Friends of the Park, and the San Antonio Conservation Society.

The organizations involved would like to preserve the park, clean it up, secure it and make improvements to it so the entire community can enjoy it.

After the park was sold to the City of San Antonio it was dedicated in honor of Mother Margaret Mary Healy Murphy, who built the first Catholic free school for African Americans in the state of Texas.
